Call for submissions is open
We are looking for performances lasting 0–30 minutes from all forms of performing arts (yes – you can apply with a performance that’s even under a minute long). You can apply with finished works or completely new ideas, alone or with your team. No idea is too silly, too unfinished, or too short. You could, for example, come to discuss your work-in-progress with the audience and perform excerpts from it.
We hope to have a diverse range of content in our festival program, so whether your performance is performance art, theatre, improvisation, music, dance, stand-up, live painting, spoken word, or something that defies easy definition, we look forward to receiving your application!
This year’s festival theme is national identity.
Who can apply? Anyone can apply, whether you’re a hobbyist, a student in the field, or a more experienced artist. We encourage everyone to apply with a low threshold.
So what can you perform there? In the selection process, priority is given to performances that connect in some way to this year’s theme. However, we also accept applications for works that don’t directly relate to the theme. Perhaps you’ve been working on your piece for a long time, or maybe your idea is simply so brilliant that it deserves to be seen!
Can you apply with multiple performances? There is no limit to the number of performances per applicant. However, please submit a separate application for each performance.
What is a short performance?
Almost anything! Here are seven examples for inspiration.
01
A five-minute reading from old primary school diaries
02
Your signature shower song
03
A manifesto about the state of the world
04
A deep analysis of your primary school drawing
05
Your Christmas-themed stand-up routine
06
Your most hearty laugh
07
A 15-minute dance performance
What if your performance is still just at the idea stage? Come and tell us about it – that too can be a wonderfully interesting performance. Art is a process – sometimes the process is even more interesting than the end result.
We will personally notify all applicants about the selections in early February.
All festival proceeds will be donated to fundraising causes. This year’s causes are supporting underprivileged youth and work to prevent domestic violence in the Tampere region.
Frequently asked questions
We build the festival program primarily around the national identity theme. National identity manifests differently in each of us, and no one’s national identity is exactly the same.
If you need help getting into the theme, here are some questions to support your reflections.
- What images and feelings does the concept of national identity evoke in you?
- Which tradition is meaningful to you and how does it manifest in you today?
- What moment, place, or memory has shaped your national identity?
- How does your generation experience national identity differently than your parents?
- What is Finnishness in 2050?
- How does the digital world change our national identity?
- What kinds of things make up your national identity?
Even if your work isn’t directly related to this year’s theme, we encourage you to submit an application anyway!
The festival is organised out of love for the art form, and unfortunately we are not able to pay performers fees. Every performer will receive a festival pass that grants free access to the entire festival. Additionally, the backstage snack table is available to all performers throughout the festival. The festival is an excellent opportunity to learn from how others create, share different processes, and gain perspectives for further developing your own work.
Application form
The information from the application form will be used in connection with festival marketing. However, you can separately prohibit the mention of names of your team members in advertising on the form.
